FIRSTLY ENERGY PRICES IN AUSTRALIA In 2018/19 my average NONwinter gas bill was $50 to $80 and Winter gas bills were $150 to $180 ( this is for 2 months). Over the past 12 months, all of my GAS bills have massively increased. My last gas bill 2 months ago was nearly $400 for 2 months and just got my latest gas bill ( for a ONE MONTH period) which is nearly $300......These are an increase of OVER 100% since 2019....But yet I have HALVED my gas usage. To rip me off even more, when I phoned my energy company and explained my gas usage they AGREED my gas bills should be HALF of 2018/19 bills and AGREED my meter MUST be faulty so they arranged to have it checked and told me IF no fault is found I will be charged $199-20 for having it checked. The day the meter was checked the gas man replaced the meter with a NEW meter ( which indicates to me that it was faulty ) and he said it will be checked further for faults and IF no faults are found the OLD meter will be reconnected within ONE WEEK. A MONTH has since passed, I still have the NEW meter, energy company claims NO faults were found AND instead of charging me $199-20 they have charged me $242. Also, I discovered that the DISCOUNTS energy companies offer and our pensioner energy discounts are FALSE because the lady at my energy company explained to me that the HIGHER our discounts are the HIGHER the rates they charge are for usage and supply charges, meaning we the consumer DO NOT really get any discounts and any pensioner discounts paid by the government goes straight to the energy provider NOT off the pensioner's bills. A Royal Commission needs to be conducted into how energy companies operate. ALSO; the government needs to give us pensioners a decent increase in our fortnightly payments to cover these and other MUCH HIGHER living costs. |
