Do pensioners have a voice OR are we silenced?

The heading says it all
I tend to believe we ARE silenced.
I recently placed a topic on this forum board informing all Australian pensioners that I recently sent emails to various politicians to inform them about the financial struggles of pensioners, then after getting no replies I sent a letter to THE AGE newspaper in the hope they would take up the story and pressure the government to give pensioners a decent increase in payments.
I also asked all Australian pensioners to support this fight on behalf of us all, by also emailing those politicians and telling them about your own financial struggles AND if any pensioner does not mind appearing on TV they could also contact programs such as A Current Affair and / 60 Minutes.
If we, as pensioners join forces, we can pressure the government into giving us pensioners a decent increase. They DO NOT have to increase taxes to do this because all they have to do is make sure that big corporations like Google, Facebook, etc pay thier fair share of taxes which would more than cover any decent increase we receive.
A few days after I put this topic on this Forum Board; it was removed; MEANING, we pensioners ARE silenced as well as ignored.

One of the things which bugged me when I worked in Aged Care (Day Respite) was that when pensioners do get an increase in payment they can be worse off, their rent (if Government Housing) increases, and there are other increases linked to the CPI.

I feel the same about people like myself and husband who have to survive on supported living benefit due to disability- it is even lower than Super or Pension. And what is worst is that if we had had an accident and not an illness we would be paid by ACC here in NZ and often get alot more money. SO so unfair.

Why some topics may move down on the forum boards? Topics on the forum board sorted by popularity. If no one posted on this topic recently, it goes down on the board

How to find post on the forum board? Just open the page, then press Ctrl+F to open the find box that allows you to search for title on the board page For example, if you want to find the topic "Attention Australian PENSIONERS", Ctrl+F and paste "pensioners" in the find box

Thank you for your reply. Is there anyone you could move it to the main page of the Forum Board? This is a topic which affects ALL current and future pensioners; including yourself, your relatives, friends, and work mates; because although you may have superannuation for your retirement, by the time you retire the Federal and State Governments are going to be that much in debt that they will probably begin taxing retirees superannuation payouts, which will eat into everyone's superannuation savings. Fortnightly pension payments and Rent Assistance payments are more than 10 years out of date, therefore if we the current pensioners do nothing now to correct this problem, then not only do the current pensioners continue to struggle financially; BUT also in the future, when YOU, your relatives, friends or workmates retire, YOU will all be struggling financially much more than us, because by the time you retire pension payment amounts will be even further behind. My topic "ATTENTION AUSTRALIAN PENSIONERS" is not asking the pensioners to rise up and protest in the street, but is instead asking them to band together and fight for a LIVABLE fortnightly payment for current and future generations by using our voices through LEGAL channels to inform the Government about how much pensioners struggle financially on their measly fortnightly pension payments.

Edward, even though I am not a pensioner (yet), I am totally on your side. By the way, there are the rules for forum boards. Same rights for every Forum Topic. It's fair ... isn't it?

I do agree that same rules for all topics is fair however we pensioners are barely surviving. Me personally as from next Winter even though I have lung cancer and emphysema, will no longer be able to have heating in Winter or cooling in Summer because GAS bills alone have more than DOUBLED in past 2 years. In 2018/19 my average non-winter gas bill was $50 to $80 and $150 to $180 in winter. Over past 12 months all of my gas bills have been much higher. MY last gas bill was just under $400 for 2 months and my latest gas bill received yesterday for just ONE month is nearly $300 even though I have actually HALVED my gas usage since 2018/2019

Pensioners have a voice. They should have a voice. Whatever pensioners need, the government of the day should listen. Remember a good number of pensioners out there will cast their vote to a government that listens to them & acts on their behalf. Politicians should never underestimate the power of retired people. They are a powerful force & voting at an election will always happen & politicians will always need the vote of pensioners. I assume they do!
