I once saw a very elderly gentleman returning a toaster like that to the hardware store for a refund. Said it kept burning his toast ..it must be faulty .. hehe .Even bought his own loaf of bread in to demonstrate. They finally convinced him to upgrade to a fancy pop up. He was so enthused in the end ,he forget his loaf of bread .. 😂

i used to clean a hotel in gawler start around 10 would finish anywhere between 4 and 6 am always had knock offs with the morning crew nothing like a double bourbon with your bacon and eggs i got everymorning ,then i worked in a water treatment plant and cleaned my way down to the bolivar plant and i would finish around 12 if housing trust had work for me i did the pathological work i would carry on depending on what time that finished generally that would be 2 or 3 days of work for 2 people ,the guy i contracted for would always call in and take us to his local for tea and a few ales getting home around 7 or 8 sometimes i played with the kids but the day generally started around 10 again , half the time you had no idea that you had just worked a 18 to 24 hour day because it didnt seem to stop and it was so fun till i retired now i don't know how to sleep ,my head is like a 20 cent clock tick tick tockEdited 15-Apr-25 13:44pm

Funny . . I did the same with my answering machine back in the day . . . with Electric Light Orchestra beginning . . . "Hello . . .How are you . . . have you been alright . .through all these etc;" . . . confused all my friends and telemarketers no end.

I never used that, but there's one called NyQuil that used to put you to sleep, but now it's not as strong so you remain wide awake, so not so effective.

In New Zealand "Countdown" was a supermarket chain, but it recently got rebranded as "Woolworths" by the Australian parent company.

One brand of supermarkets in New Zealand used to be Foodtown. Then Countdown rival chain started. Then Foodtown bought up Countdown, but kept running both brands for a while (including having one of each at opposite ends of a local shopping mall!). Eventually they were all rebranded as Countdown. Then Woolworths Australia bought them up and has now rebranded them all as Woolworths. (Woolworths Australia is a supermarket chain that has nothing to do with the Woolworths UK shops, but just to confuse things even more, there was a chain of UK Woolworths shops in New Zealand many years ago.)

"Superette" is actually a chain of clothing shops. The name / term was used for a small supermarket stores many years ago, so some people might still call them that. They are now probably all branded as "Fresh Choice" or "Four Square", which realistically just Woolworths or Foodstuffs. Although there are multiple branded supermarket stores in New Zealand giving an illusion of competitive choice, there is really only two main parent companies that own almost all of them: - Foodstuffs NZ - owns New World, PAK'nSAVE, Four Square, Gilmours - Woolworths NZ - owns Woolworths, FreshChoice, SuperValueEdited 13-Apr-25 17:32pm
