My parents put a lot of preparation into Christmas celebrations. The tree went up on the 23rd and then Santa came Christmas Eve after we all sat down to a dinner of roast pork or duck with all the trimmings and extra crackling. We then had dessert ,it was a creamed rice pudding with extra cream and almonds in it with some plum juice on it, yummy . Then we would read a Christmas Story to the kids under 10 while Santa delivered the presents under the tree. My dad used to pretend to be Santa and went HO HO HO and stomped away. Then we shared opening the gifts and the surprise of the gift inside. Afterwards we would have treats to eat while we played with the new presents till it was late and then we played again on Christmas Day while our parents slept in. WE also had these treats that would last till New Year as we all helped make the Danish cookies and also a few Australian ones as well a week before Christmas. As our families have gotten larger those times are gone to some extent but we alway remember those times and try to find some great new treats every year to remember those times. This is what we remember and talk about when we get together with our small family groups. We all loved Christmas back in those days where we did not get lots of presents but we just enjoyed each others company. |
