So it's Australia day coming up again on the 26th Jan. Most of us usually look forward to a casual BBq or a catch up with friends , or just a quiet day at home with family and thinking how grateful we are to live here when we look around the alternatives in some people's countries especially now. In fact it used to be fun! ..or am I missing something? It's now each year becoming more and more about Indigenous historical invasion of land and events we were not there for .Events we have apologised for none the less Things ,indeed that we're atrocities and do continue to affect Indigenous community. We now have 2 of our Supermarket chains boycotting selling Aussie day merch and an M.P bringing the Muslim Palestinians invasion into the fray However , are we not supposed to be celebrating all being together in this new time and age now and working a way forward? We welcome our newly formed immigrant residents also on this day. Why change the day? Minorities will still be there on the new date saying it's our land u stole it. All countries have suffered wars and invasions ,, No? Why not make a 2 day holiday . A day of mourning/ healing / acknowledgement for our Aboriginal and Torres strait Island peoples , followed up by a coming together in true Australian style Aussie Day . Hey sign a treaty? |
