people need to feel safe in their homes , going to do their shopping or even going out for dinner , these young people need to learn respect for people and property .

Well seeing as they do it for street cred or drugs or are just trying to be cool, isolate them from all that stuff. Put them in a remote area with no social media, no friends, no drugs and give them coordinates to the nearest checkpoint of resources at a reasonable but challenging distance. Rinse and repeat. See how fast they'll grow up. I'm no expert but I feel like because they are children, the more time they spend in prison, the more harder it is to integrate into society later on. Plus they're around other criminals which might perpetuate this. So I think because they are children the situation is a bit more complex.Edited 05-Apr-25 04:23am

They need to learn the consequences of their actions. They also need to learn the difference between their rights and their responsibilities.

Sorry, I don't care how old they are, if they've made the conscious decision, time & time again with plenty of warnings, then it's a matter of "if you do the crime, you do the time". If they're old enough to commit Adult Crimes, then they're old enough to do Adult times, in Adult Prisons.

Youths who commit a series of crimes should have the choice to either go to jail or join the military, no more bail.

On a different note, I applaud all the people who took the time to answer a question that was worded and spelt so badly, it was almost impossible to read.

If they commit adult crimes they should be treated like adults and not be tapped on the and told to be good..

Screen the parents of these offenders and have them charged with child neglect . If they are to blame

In many cases these children have been born into jhorrific circumstances and are treated badly. They do not know that every action has a consequece and this is what they must learn. So a school for them with life lessons, kindness and education. Life skills too must be learned. The parents are in many cases the criminals thay should go to court and answer seroious questions too.

I'm not sure about girls but many young male offenders seem to benefit from tough boot camps held out in the Australian wilderness so long as it is tough but not brutal. Many of these lads have never had any form of adult supervision showing how it is to be included in general life situations and how to behave in it.

I believe many offences are a case of the child/ren mimic what they see and/or experience themselves.I believe some tough love, strict educations/learnings may possibly turn some kids around and put them on the right path. Unfortunately i think there are some who will not be able to have their issues corrected.

Give parents more rights to discipline their children. Because there is a difference between Discipline and abuse. Yes, lock these repeat offenders up like you did 40yrs ago.Edited 04-Apr-25 15:21pm

I assume “series crimes they commit” meant “Serious” so yes. People who commit Serious crimes should be punished no matter what age.

I think criminal behavoir needs to go back to its original order [in Australia] you seperated, men, women and childre. YOu went to jail and you worked 40 hours per week to make your jail profitable and all money left over was divided between the shareholders [prisoners] and they received this money when they were released.... worked well, wasnt perfect,, bUT NO Taxpayer had to fund prisoners, they funded themselve, Many countries aroun the world were like this except USA who seemed to lover persecuting prisoners...THEN ALONG CAME USA we will improve humanity, and we have what they orchestrated. feminism, women working and strangers raising children, 74 gendas, climate, cv, etc etc. or and criminals now stay in hotel like accomadation with free idiobox, stupidone, internet access everythin gis free, they even put swimming pools in some criminal resorts.. the world has gone stupid on steroids, and many approve

Definitely need to have the punishment fit the crime and punishments need to be really punitive not just a yuck holiday camp but I think that they need to be isolated from adult criminals. Kids brains don’t really mature till 25 years

Depends on the age. I think that parents have the duty of care also but as I said age factors in to it also. This is hard because I have four children and five grandchildren and we are blessed that they are good decent human beings and to think of children being incarcerated scares me but they have to learn right and wrong. Difficult poll for me.

I just saw a speach about this stuff not long ago. And it seems they're trying to find ways to not let children out so quickly anymore. But what will happen to all the Neo robots comitting crimes. Try to send them in the middle of nowhere, on a special camp to learn, Only expose them to good hard working people so some goodness can rub off onto them.

If a "child" gets out there & commits crimes & think they are above the law & grown, then treat them like they are grown & maybe they will wake up & realize that they are throwing their life away. I know some that have gone through the "Scared Straight" program & they straightened right on up .

I think it depends on the crime. Serious crimes, yes! They should do adult time but not in an adult prison.

Perhaps the parents should face court too, especially if the kids are young and they haven't shown parental direction and don't know where their kids are when they should have been at home.

If my children ever committed a serious crime, I would turn them in myself. They were raised better than that. I would visit them as much as I could, but they have a lesson to learn and they have to pay for wrong doing.

5 points for dealing with them, but in a more humane, understanding way. Some people actually have killing instincts from birth, and can not help their behavior. Medication may help? Get a psychiatric evaluation. ;-o

I BELIEVE CHILDREN WHO COMMIT SERIOUS CRIMES WHILE THEY STILL ARE YOUNG - SHOULD BE GIVEN ADULT TIME AND THEIR 'PARENTS' SHOULD BE GIVEN ADULT TIME TOO. SINCE THEIR PARENTS REFUSED TO DO THEIR JOB (MY PERSONAL OBSERVATION HAS BEEN CHILDREN COPY THEIR PARENTS' BEHAVIOR) - RAISE THEIR KIDS TO PLAY BY THE RULES OF SOCIETY!!

They are the biggest whiners while incarcerated. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
