Hitting my thumb while driving nails rates something more therapeutic than, " OhShukeyDERN..."

As long you don't say the C word. I know it will offend some ladies or men, saying the C word all the time is not nice at all.

I avoid swearing. I say banana instead, and that makes me laugh, which in turn makes me control the pain level.

Personally, I think that swearing is not very appealing, especially in a woman, it makes her sound and look very downlow and dirty. Swearing is not "Ladylike" at all and I am happy to say that I hardly use inappropiate language.

I don't think it vents or helps. When I was in hospital a couple of years ago there was a man who was experiencing spasms of nerve pain. Every few minutes he would scream the "F" word. Honestly, what was wrong with ouch, or oooh. It kept me awake and I was told I was the only person in the ward that hadn't slept. I found someone screaming a swear word every few minutes as well as a bed as hard as a board not conducive to sleeping. Perhaps if he'd used a different word I might have found it easier to get to sleep.

Many silly studies say swearing helps with pain ... the reality is that the actual words said are completely irrelevant and simply shouting any word / short phrase or even making a loud vocal noise achieves the same thing.

"Swearing" is such a weird thing, and old fashionedly taboo connotations. They are just words. Words are fascinating, and the history of words even more so. It grinds my gears that religion has made such trivial things a major issue. Speaking a language where words are used to express emotion, thought and ideas shouldn't be taboo. Who exactly gets to decide what words are "swear" words and why does their opinion matter?...it's just ridiculous. We should all be taught when and where swearing is appropriate. I am ANTI hate and anti prejudiced, so I'm not talking about hate speech as that should never be allowed anywhere by anyone. But the word "f**k" is such a beautiful word that has so many meanings and can be used in many situations. Just because someone somewhere at sometime long ago disliked the word and their opinion stuck for an entire world population just fascinates me. Especially since it just means "to copulate" and should never have been given the tag it's been given.

But i've found that if you let out a lould "yelp" that the pain seems to wane a bit faster than holding it all in. Maybe that's why they encourage people to go on top of mountain and yell their heads off to release "emotional pain". Saw a program years ago with blokes doing this so it can apply to the gals as well .. after all we are all human!

Depend why and who your swearing. in no way is it possible to help physical pain. only changes mood. I can just see people swearing at their Neo robots so frequently when they get fed up with them. it won't make a difference if someone swears at a robot or not. Or can bot's be trained to slap some one in the face every time they swear, just to reduce so called hate speach for the sake of the government. Or even better force someone to tap and pay with their phone every time they swear at their robot. for all those sort of people who kind or say a swear word for every 3rd or 4th word. that is why I don't use smart phones I don't have 1.

Better than ANY pain medication!
