Having driven in a few places, there are way too many opportunities for local, state and federal governments to improve our roads. NSW: Parramatta road (23km) has never been having a good 1km patch for the last 30+ years. Hate to think how much damages it has made to vehicles over the years.VIC: West Gate Bridge has been constantly under construction for years, blown out of budget years before it finishes (still being constructed).South Australia: too many state/ federal roads are still one lane both ways while no one uses overtaking lanes properly. It becomes so tiring to overtake idiots driving way under limit on the overtaking lanes. Don’t get me started with suburban roads having utility metal plates on the tyre tracks. These aren’t bad due to usage, purely bad designs.

Where I live, in Canada, the roads are deplorable. We have potholes so big, they'll eat your tires. Our city council is more interested in building an indoor turf facility than spending our tax dollars on infrastructure.

We have some pots holes that need to be fixed in our area.

Street roads needs more attention because there are highly the ones that people use to have race and can caused car accidents.

There has been insufficient roadworks around the country - very hard to find a road that doesn't need to be repaired these days.

Almost every road in NSW needs work done on it. We have had a lot of rain and some of the roads are like a quilted bed cover. My car is low profile with very hard suspension so it's a very rough ride indeed. Some people have done tyre after tyre on some roads while the councils ring their hands and say they have no money. Funny that they do at times have money for other things that have nothing to do with local councils.

They don't make them like they used to. The Europeans still drive on the Roman roads built thousands of years ago.

Bruce Highway, Nebo Road Mackay. Where the highway conjuncts with Shakespear st and Gordon st. There is very little distance between the two conjunctions that makes it hard for drivers to switch lanes (on bruce Highway) to enter Gordon st after leaving the conjunction with shakespear st.

Side roads is where the problem stands out and the roads around birkenhead glenfield and birkdale are the worst roads not wide enough parking both sides of the road does not leave enough to get buy then on top of that the bumps on the roads one then another goes on and on the reason they were build and for who's benefit I don't get it.

Most roads need some sort of repair and always will. Impossible to have all roads perfect. Just drive to the conditions. I know in my local council area they want people to report any potholes. Cannot repair them if they don’t yet know there is an issue.

In our state the condition of the roads is based purely on Politics. We currently have an Australian Labor Party in power. Drive through any electroate where the sitting member, thats about all they do, is a member of the Labor Party. The roads, streets are magnificent. Drive through any electorate where the sitting member is from the Opposition and the roasds and streets are appallingly badly maintained, in particular, one of SA's Major Tourist Attractions, ersatz German Village, Hahndorf, which is visited by 10s of 1000s every week the access roads in and out are a Total, Complete and Utter Disaster but the State Government does Nothing to repair them. What is urgently needrd is a Full Renovation, stripping away all the old patchwork of repairs and indeed the entire surface needs to be replaced. It is no wonder SA is still regarded as being The Rustbucket State when Tourist visit.

We know the Bruce Highway is not good only two lanes most of the way through Queensland, all motorways should be at least 3 lanes each way.

These days, most of them need attention - they won't make them the way the Romans made them because those roads never needed attention. Now with union workers and corrupt companies, the roads are intentionally done to fail soon, because those contracts with the road builders include the (very profitable) clauses for repairs when necessary, which is now always.

Well, this is definitely 1 way to get members to say where they live, and it looks like many people have done just that. It seems some have given roads that would make identifying their location relatively easy if you know what info you need to possibly do bad with it. Let's just hope there aren't any hackers or bots getting this info and using it for the wrong reasons. In answer to the question though, i have seen some documentaries on TV and the state of the roads in a number of different countries need a lot of tending too. Main roads and secondary roads should be sealed and in good order so they are able to stand large amounts of traffic. Roads which trucks and heavy machinery need to use, should be in good usable condition all the time.

Too much money and roadworks on roads continuously sick of infrastructure money should go towards housing and health. Plus the road fixes never stop the traffic getting worse

Here in New Zealand, the Auckland motorway badly needs correcting. It is atrociously designed in places with on-ramps that stupidly become off-ramps-only at the very next exit, so traffic wanting to go further needs to immediately change lanes. In a few places there are off-ramps with no corresponding on-ramp, and vice versa. Then there are the ridiculous on-ramp traffic lights that simply moved the congestion to the normal streets, and are often still holding up traffic even when the motorway is flowing fine. Plus there is the idiotic ideas to build a new harbour crossing (bridge or tunnel) right next to the existing bridge and connecting it to the same clogged motorway on each side. The Harbour Bridge is rarely a problem itself, it is before and after with fools changing lanes that cause the issues, and adding another crossing there will simply make it even worse.

Prince's hwy,especially Far South Coast. Lived there for 12years. So dangerous,large potholes everywhere. They just get patched and within a week are in same or worse condition. Get alot of motorbike travellers and tourists with caravans which really worries me. If you don't know the roads and come for scenic drives it is a death trap. Also road maintainance everywhere seems to happen during holidays...seems a stupid time to me when more traffic is on the road. Would love to see the old tar roads come back. They lasted forever.

The Mulgoa road in Sydney is a political problem. At the last election, Labour removed all funding. They then said that if you elected them they would fully fund it. (This was for about 2 months). This is a complete lie!

Get the willies when have to drive I-10 through Texas. Once got caught in fog so thick couldn't see the taillights of vehicles ahead of me OR headlights of vehicles behind. My husband was VERY surprised when he woke back up and I told him to relax, had been driving in fog for over an hour! :)

Don't drive anymore but from what I've seen here in SoCal and driving across the US from Maryland, potholes are a major concern.

Spring has arrived in Winnipeg Canada and the road potholes have appeared too. Can call 311 and report the road location of them. It took many calls before a particular bad one was fixed. But the effort was worth it in the long run.Edited 16-Apr-25 23:13pm

One, I don't drive - so I don't know what main roads, highways, or expressways need some attention across any country... Two, I think the age you should be able to get your first driving license should be pushed back to 21 years old (in theory 21 years old car drivers are more mature (?) than 18 years old car drivers). Three, the speed limit should be lower to 55 miles per hour (as statistics have proved the 55 miles per hour has led to less fatal car drivers' accidents (deaths) and less car drivers' accidents that are non-fatal. Last, build more toll roads, more toll highways, and more toll expressways - as you can spend the tolls collected - strictly on the design (layout) of driving issues involving toll roads, toll highways, and toll expressways!Edited 14-Apr-25 12:20pm

Unfortunately the only highway i can use is walking. You would be amazing how awful it is to be a senior in Long Beach California having to use a walker. The factor that people with cars at least in Long Beach city do not care if you're you're crossing the with the light will see you and turn during your time to walk. They just continue to make the turn. I was lucky yesterday although he saw he still wanted to turn but as I got closer. What's sad is this driver was older man and finally decided he would stop. I have always driver now I have to my road with a walker now. I wish people could try to more polite. Just my comment to add. You never know what one person highway.
