Should buns be sold all year round?
MApr 04, 21
Easter buns of course as popular and often hit the shelves after Christmas.
Should buns, without the cross, be available to purchase all year round?

If people want them, I can't see any harm. I enjoy them and I'm not religious at all.

Regardless, they will always be called Hot Cross Buns

No - I think it is ridiculous having Easter Buns out in the shops just after Christmas. They should be put out a month before Easter. They are meant to be a special Easter celebration. For that matter neither should Easter Eggs come out early in the New Year either.

Here we can get fruit loafs and buns all year in Woolworths and Coles. About 3 months before Easter the crossed buns are rolled out. This annoys me because Easter has become nothing but a commercialised holiday for most people today.

My local Woolies had "spiced fruit buns" available all last year (without the cross) and my family was not fussed about buying them. Save them for Easter time (well, boxing day to ANZAC Day) so it keeps them special and something to look forward to.

Hot cross buns are a Christian tradition celebrating Easter ( which was hijacked from the Pagans ) and should stay there and not be diminished to “ just another bun” but these days you cannot call it an Easter bun. They have to be a Holiday bun so as not offend anybody...except Christians.... it’s OK to offend them ...apparently

Easter buns are traditional and should only be sold at Easter. Selling them throughout the tear diminishes their significance.

I think they more or less already do sell similiar ones (without the cross) all year now. I guess it makes them less 'special' for those who put specific religious significance on them if they are sold outside the Easter period. It's mostly just a grab by sellers to make as much money as possible out of them, but then life is short and why not enjoy it how you want ? All a bit ho hum to me.

They are a good staple food and if they start going dry can be "recycled" as Bread & Butter Pudding, no need to add sultanas as they are already in the "dough". No arguments about food from me, am just grateful to be able to put it on the table, any Season, any time of the year!

Take the cross off and sell them the whole year round. If it was any other religion than the Christian religion the buns would not be on sale (with the cross) other than Easter. Christian's cannot say they are offended because you can't offend a Christian as you can't offend white people, apparently.

I brought 6 from a bakery and even though they were much more expensive the taste and freshness was far superior. Next we will be getting Xmas cakes all year round!!
