I was once a beneficiary of a will where 4 of us were to get equal shares until the testator became ill. My sister and I stayed in her home on alternate weeks, giving care for almost 3 years. I had to leave my husband every second week...he could have come with me only we had a few pets and he opted to stay at home. Trouble reared its head when the two other beneficiaries found out the will had been changed in our favour. They did not win in the end, but they caused a long hold up by getting a lawyer involved and actually lying that they had given equal care. I would have agreed to give the extra back, but things got nasty and I didn't. Now the family is split and we don't talk. Should I have given back the extra money I received, and has anyone else had bad experiences with inheritances? |
