Should older people over 80 be driving on the road and hold a license?

    You can tell that it is the young people who comment adversely about the old people driving. Of course, there are some older people who struggle but they are no worse than the incompetent younger generation who think they are the best drivers in the world and take big risks. According to them, I should have lost my licence years ago. I am 87 and so more experienced in dealing with the younger generation who tear through roundabouts without even looking to see if it is safe to do so.

      YES, arent they limited to 10km from home now anyway? They have to get to the Dr or supermarket and it is more important for them. I'd put parking spaces next to the wheelchair and pram area up front for them too

          yes!! as long as they don't have double vision or a serious health condition that prevents them from driving.

            As long as they have no serious eye problems or health issues, I think it should be all right.

              if they meet the requirements and pass the test - why not?

                They are often more careful drivers than many young people who speed and play with their phone or do other things but pay no attention to the road

                  Agreed! It's only the one's high on crack, who have their duelling 40 yo kids in the back seat, that you have to watch. ;}

                  Why can’t everyone stop picking on them, ok they are more cautious...but really what’s wrong with that

                    I guess it depends on their health or anything else which may stop them from driving carefully or driving at all.

                      Some are good at driving then others hard to toss the coin

                        I drove today with a lady who is 81 and she was good. I think as long as they are capable why not. Some of the younger people who check their phones, have loud music or are just plain arrogant in their ability terrify me on the roads. So age really is only one area of whether you are OK to drive or not.
