With the shortages of staff in hospitals, wouldn't it be a good idea to bring back some of the matrons that did hands-on training in hospitals. As I remember, we had some really great nurses trained in this way. Instead of sending them off to University, they could be trained in the same manner as apprentices. It could help fill the hole that we have now, with shortages all over Australia.
